Entering the work breakdown structure

Entering the work breakdown structure#

In Allegra, the easiest way to enter the project structure is in the Gantt chart or in the item overview (hierarchical view).

You must have permissions to create items in the intended project or workspace. You must have unlocked the license to use the Gantt chart (see Managing regular users). You can choose between two options for entering the work breakdown structure:

  • In the task management perspective (go to the Task management app > Items. Select the “Hierarchical view”)

  • In the project management perspective (go to Project management app > Gantt chart)

  • In the navigation area at the top left, click the workspace or project for which you want to create the breakdown structure. This activates the corresponding filter so that the items to be created are also displayed.

  • On the node for the workspace, right-click > Add > Task and enter the first task. Proceed in the same way for all the remaining first-level tasks. Note: at this point you do not yet need to enter any dates, efforts, or dependencies.

  • You enter additional items by clicking an existing item and then using the keyboard shortcut CMD + to add a new task directly below the selected one.

  • Next, use right-click > Add child > Task on a first-level task to enter the second-level tasks.

  • Build the item hierarchy by dragging items back and forth or by using the indent and outdent functions in the item’s context menu.

You have now entered all items and structured them hierarchically. If you have not entered any dates, all items now start on the same date and also end at the same time.
