Embedding attributes

Embedding attributes#

You can embed attributes of the current document or document section into a document’s text. This lets you display all of a document’s metadata, such as the responsible and the status, within the document itself.

This function is also helpful for creating documents that are largely identical and differ only in a few sections. Examples of such documents are project applications, project orders, project manuals and process descriptions. Using roles, you can specify precisely who can change which metadata.

To insert an attribute into a document section, edit the section’s text. Click button G in the action menu, as shown below, to open the attribute selection and embed an attribute. You only see the attributes that are visible on the editing form of the corresponding item type.

In the attribute selection, you can decide whether you want to take the attribute’s value from the document or from the document section you are currently changing (context).

Using wiki inline templates, you can define yourself how an embedded attribute should be displayed in the wiki (see Wiki inline templates).
